About Me

Hello! Thanks for stopping by my blog - leave a comment if you have a moment.

I am a young woman who is discerning a call to religious life.

I entered the Salesian Sisters of St John Bosco (Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, or FMA as I often abbreviate it on my blog) on August 4, 2007.

I love to live life to the fullest; meeting people and traveling are my favorite activities!

Being with young people is my passion, and I am one of Don Bosco’s biggest fans. (I can’t help it; I became a Salesian Cooperator long before I entered with the Salesian Sisters.)

I began this blog as a way of sharing my faith journey with my close friends, but everyone is welcome to read and comment!

Here are a few of my favorite quotes.

Peace and all good! I wish you the best as you begin the countdown to your entrance date! I recall how exciting yet terrifying it was for me. Such a combination could only come from God. Do you think you’ll keep up the blog?

Thoughts and prayers,

Sister Gayle

H Sr Gayle,

Thanks for the comment. Yes, I will be keeping up the blog. My religious family is aware how this is an important part of my apostolate. It will also provide me a way of giving “the public” an insider’s look at formation and religious life.

I hope I will be able to count you as a reader! :)

I have a blog at Worpress too and it always amazes me the terms that lead peolpe to my site…and now I’m surprised at the search I was doing and where I found myself…Why would I find such a lovely site as yours when searching for “I’m a math atheist…” quote from calvin and Hobbes and a pic from the cartoon?…the page that my search led me to was a lovely one on saints…ah, the internet is perverse and wonderous. Have a great day. :)

That is truly funny. Thanks for leaving a comment! I am always amazed at the search terms that people come to my page via. :)

Hello

My name is Javier, I am 26 years old and I am from Madrid, Spain. I am catholic. I use to go to a prayer group. This group is from catholic charismatic renewal. I don´t speak very well the English. I have read this: “leave a comment if you have a moment”, and here it is the comment…
God bless you!! I´m sure you are going to be a great nun!
Pray a Hail Mary for me, please! I´m praying a Hail Mary for you now.

I copy here a poem of Santa Teresa de Jesús (Ávila). In this poem is the secret to be a great cristian: just doing the will of the Lord.

(Que Dios te bendiga y que María te conduzca de su mano por las sendas del Señor hasta que llegues a la meta deseada del Cielo. Que Dios te guarde en su Corazón Sacratísimo para siempre).

Good bye!

VUESTRA SOY

Vuestra soy, para Vos nací,
¿Qué mandáis hacer de mí?

Soberana Majestad,
Eterna sabiduría,
Bondad buena al alma mía;
Dios, alteza, un ser, bondad,
La gran vileza mirad,
Que hoy os canta amor así.
¿Qué mandáis hacer de mí?

Vuestra soy, pues me criastes,
Vuestra, pues me redimistes,
Vuestra, pues que me sufristes,
Vuestra, pues que me llamastes,
Vuestra, porque me esperastes,
Vuestra, pues no me perdí.
¿Qué mandáis hacer de mí?

¿Qué mandáis, pues, buen Señor,
Que haga tan vil criado?
¿Cuál oficio le habéis dado
A este esclavo pecador?
Veisme aquí, mi dulce Amor,
Amor dulce, veisme aquí,
¿Qué mandáis hacer de mí?

Veis aquí mi corazón,
Yo le pongo en vuestra palma,
Mi cuerpo, mi vida y alma,
Mis entrañas y afición;
Dulce Esposo y redención
Pues por vuestra me ofrecí.
¿Qué mandáis hacer de mí?

Dadme muerte, dadme vida:
Dad salud o enfermedad,
Honra o deshonra me dad,
Dadme guerra o paz crecida,
Flaqueza o fuerza cumplida,
Que a todo digo que sí.
¿Qué queréis hacer de mí?

Dadme riqueza o pobreza,
Dad consuelo o desconsuelo,
Dadme alegría o tristeza,
Dadme infierno, o dadme cielo,
Vida dulce, sol sin velo,
Pues del todo me rendí.
¿Qué mandáis hacer de mí?
»
Si queréis, dadme oración,
Sí no, dadme sequedad,
Si abundancia y devoción,
Y si no esterilidad.
Soberana Majestad,
Sólo hallo paz aquí,
¿Qué mandáis hacer de mí?

Dadme, pues, sabiduría,
O por amor, ignorancia,
Dadme años de abundancia,
O de hambre y carestía;
Dad tiniebla o claro día
Revolvedme aquí o allí
¿Qué mandáis hacer de mí?

Si queréis que esté holgando,
Quiero por amor holgar.
Si me mandáis trabajar,
Morir quiero trabajando.
Decid, ¿dónde, cómo y cuándo?
Decid, dulce Amor, decid.
¿Qué mandáis hacer de mí?

Dadme Calvario o Tabor,
Desierto o tierra abundosa,
Sea Job en el dolor,
O Juan que al pecho reposa;
Sea’ viña frutuosa
O estéril, si cumple así.
¿Qué mandáis hacer de mí?

Sea Josef puesto en cadenas,
O de Egito Adelantado,
O David sufriendo penas,
O ya David encumbrado,
Sea Jonás anegado,
O libertado de allí,
¿Qué mandáis hacer de mí?

Esté callando o hablando,
Haga fruto o no le haga,
Muéstreme la Ley mi llaga,
Goce de Evangelio blando;
Esté penando o gozando,
Sólo Vos en mí viví,
¿Qué mandáis hacer de mí?

Vuestra soy, para Vos nací
¿Qué mandáis hacer de mí?

Your blog came up after I read the Rosary :P
I hope your entrance exams go well!

Hi,

I’m not sure how I came upon your blog, probably searching for something Salesian. Anyway, my name is Emma and I am applying to enter this coming August. It’s so neat to read your stories and see your picture since I’m sure we’ll get to meet sometime soon. I appreciate your insights into what life is like in formation. It gets me excited and encourages me to take that step and discover God’s call. God bless you and your discernment journey.

In Christ,

Emma

Hey, philosobrat!

Your blog entry from April 29, “Discerning the Call,” was recently placed on Phatmass, and I have to say, it is very well-written and insightful. It is exactly what I need at this point in my discernment! Thanks you so much for posting it!

~Carolyn

Hi Carloyn and Discerning,

Thanks for the affirmations…. I really appreciate the feedback!

I thought that the class on discernment was really helpful, too.

I’ll be praying all your discernment - both of you.

God bless!

Just stopped by while I was blog-surfing and thought I’d drop you an encouraging note. :) St. John Bosco is one of my family’s favorites and I love to hear about the Salesians - as far as I know we don’t have any nearby…
Peace be with you,
~Jenny

Hello Sister Brittany! Sister Colleen directed me to your blog when I asked questions about the life of a postulant. I must say that your blog has been most enlightening! I am about to enter into my Junior year of college and I am discerning a call to consecrated life very deeply. The Salesian Sisters is one of the four communities that I am currently in contact with. I recently started a blog on wordpress (godalone4608.wordpress.com), so feel free to visit it anytime!

God is so amazing!

Pax!
